Lane Grabs Early Lead at Major League Fishing Event on Lake Eufaula – Alabama Angler Tops Field After Strong Opening Day Performance
EUFAULA, Okla. — Day one of the Major League Fishing (MLF) Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit Stop 5 on Lake Eufaula produced a competitive leaderboard despite anglers facing challenging fishing conditions across the reservoir.
Leading the field after Friday’s opening round is Grant, Alabama angler Cal Lane, who brought in the heaviest five-fish limit of the day at 22 pounds, 2 ounces. Lane was the only competitor to surpass the 20-pound mark and holds a comfortable lead heading into the second day of competition.
Ty Faber of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, sits in second place with 19 pounds, 8 ounces, while current 7 Brew Angler of the Year points leader Carter Nutt of Nashville, Tennessee, is third with 19 pounds, 3 ounces.
Lane Finds the Right Pattern
Lane said his success came after making adjustments during the morning hours when his initial game plan failed to produce quality fish.
After beginning the day with only a pair of small bass, Lane moved through several areas around the lake before discovering a productive pattern that consistently yielded larger fish.
The Alabama pro, who has steadily improved on the national tournament trail in recent seasons, said many of his bites came from bass weighing between four and five pounds.
While Lane enjoys the advantage after the first day, he remains cautious about repeating the performance on Saturday.
With multiple Top-10 finishes already on his resume, Lane said his focus is no longer simply making cuts or staying in contention. He is aiming for his first national-level victory.
Faber Continues Strong Eufaula History
Faber’s second-place standing continues a trend of success for him on Lake Eufaula during summer tournaments.
The Colorado angler noted that water conditions looked dramatically different from previous visits, with unusually clear water in some areas of the lake.
Faber assembled an early limit using a ChatterBait around shad-spawning activity before switching tactics and catching additional fish throughout the day. His versatile approach allowed him to stay near the top of the standings despite the difficult conditions.
Nutt Keeps Angler of the Year Momentum Rolling
Nutt continued his strong season by capitalizing on offshore fish while many competitors focused shallow.
The Tennessee angler said practice gave him confidence that a respectable bag was possible, but Friday exceeded expectations.
Unlike some of the leaders who covered extensive water, Nutt generated much of his weight from a single productive location.
The strong finish also helps his pursuit of the season-long Angler of the Year title, where every point becomes increasingly important as the season nears its conclusion.
